Funiculaire Fribourg

Opened in 1899, the Fribourg Funicular is more than just a mode of transportation; it’s a highlight of the old town. This historic line connects the hilltop portion of the historic center with the Basse-Ville below. One of the few remaining funiculars in Europe to use a water-ballasted system, it operates using local wastewater instead of a motor. Visitors can take a scenic ride on the charming historic cars, offering a unique and picturesque introduction to Fribourg’s old town.
