Fort Montego

Fort Montego, an 18th-century stone structure, stands on a hill overlooking Montego Bay. Originally built to defend Jamaica from pirates and the Spanish and French navies, the fort’s four cannons were never put to use. Today, the only visitors are curious travelers, often drawn from the nearby Hip Strip shopping district. The fort offers a glimpse into the island’s colonial past, with its sturdy walls and strategic location providing a sense of historical significance.
