Fort King George

Perched above Scarborough Bay in the southern part of Tobago, Fort King George stands as the city’s most recognizable landmark. Constructed by the British in the 1770s, it briefly fell under French control towards the end of the 18th century before being recaptured by the British in 1793. The fort remained in use until the mid-1800s when a devastating hurricane destroyed many of its 30 buildings. Today, the restored fort provides visitors with a tangible link to the island’s military history, offering a glimpse into the strategic and defensive significance of this coastal site.
