El-Kab

Originally known as Nekheb, El-Kab stands as one of ancient Egypt’s oldest and most significant cities. Situated in Edfu, the site is largely an active archaeological dig, with much of it off-limits to visitors. However, you can still explore its impressive mud-brick walls, which encircle the area. Within the accessible parts, you can visit the El-Kab tombs, three Nubian desert temples, and a vulture-shaped rock that holds sacred significance to Nekhen’s presiding deity, the vulture goddess Nekhbet. These elements offer a glimpse into the rich historical and cultural tapestry of this ancient city.
