The Delhi Old Fort, or Purana Qila, stands as the city’s oldest surviving fort, its construction initiated in the mid-16th century by Sher Shah of the Sur Empire. Built from red sandstone, the fort was later the site of Dinpanah, a city established by Mughal Emperor Humayun, which was subsequently destroyed by Sher Shah. Historians also suggest that this location may have been the site of the ancient city of Indraprastha. Today, visitors can explore the imposing walls and historic structures, offering a glimpse into the rich and layered history of the region.
