Colossus of San Carlo Borromeo (Sancarlone)

Near the town of Arona on Lake Maggiore, the towering bronze figure of San Carlo Borromeo, known as the Sancarlone, stands as a monumental landmark. Second in size only to New York’s Statue of Liberty, this hollow statue features steep stairs and ladders inside, leading visitors up to its head. From there, one can gaze out over the surrounding landscape, taking in the panoramic views of the lake and the picturesque Italian countryside.
