Chester Cathedral

Chester Cathedral, with roots stretching back over 1,000 years to its time as a Benedictine abbey, stands within the bounds of Chester’s Roman walls. Constructed largely between the 10th and 16th centuries, this Romanesque and neo-Gothic structure is crafted from red sandstone. Inside, visitors can explore the richly carved choir and view medieval treasures. For a panoramic view of the city, one can climb the 216 steps to the top of the tower. The cathedral continues to be a significant historical and architectural landmark in Chester.
