Chaxa Lagoon, part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve, is situated in the middle of the Salar de Atacama and serves as the reserve’s most easily accessible entry point. This salt lake offers a striking setting, where the flat, white expanse of the salt flats contrasts with the vibrant colors of the flamingos that frequent the area. Visitors can observe three of the five known species of flamingos: James, Chilean, and Andean, making it the best place in Chile for such sightings. The lagoon’s serene and expansive landscape provides a unique opportunity to witness these elegant birds in their natural habitat.
