Carmo Convent (Carmo Archaeological Museum)

The Carmo Convent, originally built in the 14th century, stands as a testament to Lisbon’s rich history. Despite surviving numerous battles, it was severely damaged during the Great Lisbon Earthquake of 1755. Today, the site houses the Carmo Archaeological Museum within its main altar, surrounded by the evocative ruins of the old convent. The partially destroyed Gothic arches and Manueline windows, added in the 18th century, create a striking and majestic atmosphere. Visitors can explore the museum and admire the architectural details that have withstood the test of time.
