Cairo Opera House

The Cairo Opera House, the first of its kind on the African continent, was originally constructed in 1869 as the Khedivial (Royal) Opera House. It opened with a performance of Verdi’s Rigoletto, marking a significant cultural milestone. Although the original building was destroyed by fire in 1971, the current structure stands in its place, continuing the rich operatic tradition. Today, visitors can experience a range of performances and events that uphold the legacy of this historic venue.
