Biotopo del Quetzal, named after Guatemala’s vibrant national bird, is a sprawling nature reserve in central Guatemala. This expansive area includes the Lanquin Caves, Rey Marcos Caves, and the rock pools of Semuc Champey. The reserve is a haven for wildlife, with howler monkeys swinging through the trees and a variety of birds, such as emerald toucanets and highland guans, flitting among the branches. Visitors can explore the caves, hike through lush forests, and, if lucky, catch a glimpse of the elusive and endangered quetzal.
