Batán Grande (Sicán Archaeological Complex)

Nestled within the largest dryland forest on South America’s west coast, Batán Grande, also known as the Sicán Archaeological Complex, reveals the eroded tops of brown pyramids. These structures are the remnants of Sicán tombs that once held vast amounts of gold. Archaeologists estimate that over 90% of Peruvian gold in private collections was looted from this site. Today, visitors can explore the forested landscape and the ancient pyramids, gaining insight into the rich history and cultural significance of the Sicán civilization.
