Banyan Drive

Banyan Drive, located on the Big Island of Hawaii, loops around Hilo’s Waiakea Peninsula and is often likened to Hawaii’s version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This short stretch of road is shaded by about 50 magnificent banyan trees, each planted between 1933 and 1972 by notable figures such as Babe Ruth and King George V. The towering, sprawling banyans create a canopy that offers cool respite from the sun. Visitors can stroll along the drive, enjoying the lush, green surroundings and the historical significance of each tree, which bears a plaque commemorating its famous planter.
