Avenue of the Volcanoes

The Avenue of the Volcanoes, a 124-mile (200-kilometer) corridor between two parallel mountain ranges, stretches south of Quito. Named by German explorer Alexander von Humboldt in the 18th century, this rocky spine is home to eight of Ecuador’s ten highest points, including some of the world’s tallest snow-capped mountains and active volcanoes. Visitors can experience the dramatic landscape, with towering peaks and the potential for volcanic activity, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and geological wonder.
