Nestled in the foothills of the Borneo Highlands, 62 miles (100 kilometers) south of Kuching, Annah Rais is a Bidayuh longhouse settlement that offers a glimpse into traditional communal living. The well-maintained longhouse architecture, with its distinctive wooden structures and thatched roofs, provides a tangible connection to the past. Visitors can explore the settlement, which is home to around 500 residents who now largely support themselves through tourism. Walking through the longhouses, you can observe the intricate craftsmanship and experience the close-knit community life that has been preserved for generations.
