Founded in 1939, the Alta Ski Area is one of the United States’ oldest ski destinations. Nestled east of Salt Lake City, the area was once a silver mining center and later a ghost town before its transformation into a vibrant skiing hub. Today, Alta is renowned for its steep slopes and deep powder snow, with an average annual snowfall of 551 inches (1,400 cm). Visitors can experience challenging terrain and abundant, pristine snow, making it a favorite among avid skiers.
