Porta Praetoria

Porta Praetoria, erected in 25 BC, stands as a significant testament to Aosta’s Roman heritage. Located in the heart of Aosta, this ancient city gate served as the primary eastern entrance through the city walls of Augusta Praetoria. The structure features three arches: a central opening for carriages and two smaller pedestrian passages, all leading to a central courtyard. Today, visitors can still observe these well-preserved architectural elements, offering a tangible connection to the city’s rich historical past.
