Church of the Multiplication (Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes)

The Church of the Multiplication, located in Tabgha, Israel, stands on the site of a Byzantine-era basilica whose ruins were unearthed in the 20th century. The original church, believed to be the ‘solitary place’ where Jesus performed the miracle of multiplying five loaves and two fish to feed 5,000 people, was replicated in 1936. The fifth-century mosaics, which include a depiction of the loaves and fish just in front of the altar, as well as various birds and plants from the Galilee region, are a key highlight. Despite a 2015 arson attack that damaged parts of the church, these ancient mosaics remain intact, offering visitors a vivid glimpse into the historical and religious significance of the site.
