Chicken Church

Central Java’s Chicken Church, officially known as Bukit Rhema Gereja Merpati Putih, stands in the hills near the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Borobudur complex. Built in the 1990s, the structure was inspired by a divine vision of a dove received by its designer, Daniel Alamsjah. Despite the original intention, the building more closely resembles a chicken to most visitors, giving it its colloquial name. Today, visitors can explore this unique and quirky landmark, set against the backdrop of the lush, rolling hills of Central Java.
