Helsinki Swedish Theatre

The Helsinki Swedish Theatre, a national theater where all performances are presented exclusively in Swedish, stands as a testament to the city’s rich cultural heritage. Its origins can be traced back to Helsinki’s first theater building, constructed in 1827. The current building, inaugurated in 1866, was initially known as the New Theatre until the Finnish National Theatre arrived in 1872. Today, visitors can experience a diverse range of theatrical productions, from classic plays to contemporary works, all in the Swedish language, reflecting the enduring presence and importance of the Swedish-speaking community in Finland.
