Drum Tower (Gulou)

The Beijing Drum Tower, or Gulou, is a striking red structure located just south of its counterpart, the Bell Tower, in the Beijing district named after it. First constructed in the 13th century, the tower has undergone several reconstructions. Historically, it housed 25 drums that marked the time for the city. Today, visitors can experience regular drumming performances, offering a glimpse into the rhythmic traditions that once played a crucial role in the city’s daily life.
