Marco Polo Bridge (Lugou Qiao)

Built in 1192, the Marco Polo Bridge (Lugou Qiao) is the oldest in Beijing, spanning the Yongding River with 11 arches. Located southwest of central Beijing, the bridge is adorned with 485 granite and marble lions, each uniquely crafted. Italian explorer Marco Polo is said to have written about this historic structure. Today, visitors can walk along the bridge, observing the intricate carvings and the serene river below, immersing themselves in a piece of China’s rich architectural and historical heritage.
