Orongo Ceremonial Village

Perched on a narrow ridge overlooking the Rano Kau crater, Orongo Ceremonial Village served as the ritual center for the tangata manu, or birdman, cult. This site features remnants of stone houses used during the annual birdman ceremony, along with thousands of petroglyphs etched into the rock. Visitors can explore the village’s historical structures and intricate carvings while enjoying panoramic views of the ocean and the nearby islets known as motus.
