Phnom Penh Independence Monument

Purposefully set in Phnom Penh’s bustling city center, the Phnom Penh Independence Monument, known as Vimean Ekareach in Khmer, rises 60 feet (20 meters) above the traffic. This lotus-shaped structure commemorates Cambodia’s independence from 90 years of French rule (1863–1953). The small but scenic grounds around the monument provide a peaceful spot for both locals and visitors to gather and relax, surrounded by a tangible piece of Cambodian history.
