Terrace of the Elephants

Built at the end of the 12th century by King Jayavarman VII, the Terrace of the Elephants is a striking feature within the ancient walled city of Angkor Thom and part of the Angkor temples UNESCO World Heritage Site. The terrace derives its name from the detailed stone carvings of parading elephants that decorate its walls. Stretching along the Royal Square, the terrace served as a platform for public ceremonies and royal gatherings. Today, visitors can walk along the terrace, admiring the intricate carvings and imagining the grandeur of the Khmer Empire.
