Sitting on the northernmost point of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse guided ships through the perilous Straits of Mackinac, the channel dividing Lake Michigan from Lake Huron, from 1889 to 1957. Today, visitors can explore the original keeper’s quarters and light tower, which now serve as a living museum. The site offers demonstrations and tours, providing insight into the lighthouse’s historical significance. From the grounds, guests can also enjoy panoramic views of the Straits of Mackinac and the iconic Mackinac Bridge.
