Naha Stone

Resting on the front lawn of the Hilo Public Library, the Naha Stone is a 7,000-pound volcanic rock that holds a significant place in Hawaiian history. According to legend, this stone was said to predict the rule of King Kamehameha I; it was believed that whoever could move the stone would become the ruler of Hawaii. At the age of 14, Kamehameha I accomplished this feat, and later, he fulfilled the prophecy by uniting the Hawaiian islands. Today, visitors can view this ancient, rough-hewn boulder and reflect on its historical and cultural significance.
