Nestled in the shadow of the Matterhorn, the Mountaineers’ Cemetery in Zermatt is a poignant tribute to those who perished on the alpine peaks. This small, serene site houses around 50 headstones, each marking the final resting place of mountaineers from various countries and eras. Despite their diverse backgrounds, these individuals shared a common fate, having succumbed to the challenges of the mountains they were drawn to conquer.
