Jefferson Market Library

Originally a courthouse, the Jefferson Market Library in Greenwich Village now stands as a public library, saved from demolition by local residents in the 1960s. This 19th-century Venetian Gothic structure, with its regal spires and turrets, resembles a castle. Inside, visitors can admire soaring stained glass windows and an old firewatcher’s tower. Today, the library is a popular spot for the laptop crowd, offering a unique blend of historic charm and modern utility.
