Colonial Park Cemetery

Established in 1750, Colonial Park Cemetery served as Savannah’s primary burial ground, expanding three times to cover 6 acres and accommodate 9,000 graves. By the mid-19th century, the cemetery ceased accepting new burials. Today, visitors can stroll through the grounds, where many of the graves are marked with historical plaques that provide insights into the lives and events of the city’s past. The tranquil setting offers a glimpse into the rich history of Savannah, with each marker telling a story of the people who shaped the city.
