African American Civil War Museum

The African American Civil War Museum, opened in 1999, is situated in Washington D.C.’s historic U Street community. This museum honors the 209,145 soldiers of the United States Colored Troops who fought during the Civil War to end slavery. Inside, visitors can explore exhibits that detail the experiences and contributions of these soldiers. Across the street, the companion African American Civil War Memorial provides a reflective space to further contemplate this significant chapter in American history.
