Portage Glacier

Nestled within the Chugach National Forest, approximately 50 miles south of Anchorage, Portage Glacier stands as one of Alaska’s most frequented sites. The glacier calves icebergs that float in the waters of Portage Lake, creating a striking visual contrast. At the visitor center, guests can observe live ice worms, wander through a simulated ice cave, and even touch an iceberg, offering a tactile and immersive experience of the glacial environment.
