Palace of Holyroodhouse

Set amid splendid gardens at the foot of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, the Palace of Holyroodhouse serves as the official Scottish residence of the British royals. Its history traces back to the 15th century when the monarchy moved from nearby Edinburgh Castle. The complex evolved from a 12th-century abbey, whose ruins still stand on the grounds, into a Baroque palace adorned with elaborate plasterwork, sumptuous furnishings, and numerous tapestries.
