The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a part of the Mountain Railways of India UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the oldest hill passenger railway in the country. Spanning 55 miles (88 kilometers) from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling, the railway opened in 1881.
