Butt of Lewis Lighthouse

Butt of Lewis Lighthouse

Standing at the northern tip of the Isle of Lewis, the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse has withstood fierce storms since its construction in 1862. Designed by Scottish engineer David Stevenson, this lighthouse is distinct for its red brick structure, a rarity among Scottish lighthouses. Rising from the rugged coastline, it served as a vital beacon for mariners until it was one of the last Scottish lighthouses to be automated in 1998. Today, visitors can admire its unique architecture and the dramatic coastal scenery that surrounds it.
