National Gallery of Art

The National Gallery of Art in Washington DC was established in 1937 following a generous donation by Andrew Mellon, the then secretary of the treasury, who gifted his extensive art collection and the funds to build a museum. Today, the gallery spans two buildings and houses over 110,000 objects, including permanent and loan collections, temporary exhibits, and a sculpture garden.
