Avanos

Nestled along the Kızılırmak, or Red River, the longest river in Turkey, Avanos is a small town in Cappadocia with a rich history of red earthenware pottery. This tradition dates back to the Bronze Age when the Hittites first crafted these distinctive wares. The old town, perched above the river, offers a charming setting to explore, with its narrow streets and traditional buildings. Visitors can wander through the area, stopping at numerous pottery shops that line the streets, each offering a variety of rouge-colored ceramics. These shops not only sell the pottery but also provide a glimpse into the enduring craft that has defined the town for millennia.
