Balto Statue

Perched on a rock outcropping in Central Park, the bronze Balto Statue, sculpted by Frederick Roth, honors a heroic Alaskan malamute. This real-life dog led a sled team through a fierce blizzard to deliver lifesaving diphtheria medication to a remote Alaskan village in 1925. The statue, unveiled later that same year, captures the enduring spirit of this canine hero, and visitors can see it standing proudly, a testament to bravery and determination. Balto even attended the dedication ceremony, adding a unique touch to its historical significance.
