El Campo Santo Cemetery

El Campo Santo Cemetery, located in San Diego’s Old Town, served as a burial ground during the mid- to late-1800s. As the city expanded, the cemetery’s size diminished, with many graves being paved over to make way for a streetcar line and roads. Today, visitors can explore the remaining portion of this historic site, where rows of weathered headstones and markers stand as silent witnesses to the past. The cemetery has also become a focal point for local lore, with numerous reports of car trouble, ghostly apparitions, and shadowy figures adding an eerie layer to its history.
