Kawaiaha’o Church, often referred to as the ‘Westminster Abbey of the Pacific,’ is a significant part of the Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site on Oahu. Established in 1820 under Kuhina Nui (Queen-Regent) KaÊ»ahumanu I, the church stands as a remarkable architectural feat. Constructed from approximately 14,000 slabs of coral rock, each weighing about 1,000 pounds and sourced from an offshore reef in southern Oahu, the structure exudes a unique, enduring presence. Today, visitors can explore this historic site, experiencing the rich history and cultural significance it holds.
