Blackbeard’s Castle (Skytsborg Tower)

High above Charlotte Amalie stands Skytsborg, a round defensive tower constructed by the Danish in 1679 to guard against enemy ships that might threaten Fort Christian and the harbor settlements. While the legendary pirate Blackbeard (Edward Teach) did sail nearby, his connection to the site is more rooted in local lore than historical fact. Today, visitors can enjoy one of the Caribbean’s most breathtaking views, taking in the lush green slopes, bobbing yachts, massive cruise ships, and distant islands. The site also offers amenities such as a swimming pool and a snack bar for added convenience.
