Nestled on the outskirts of Launceston, Franklin House stands as the city’s only house museum, a testament to its rich history. Built in 1838 in the Georgian style, this stately home was originally constructed for Britton Jones, an ex-convict turned publican. Over the years, it also served as one of Tasmania’s most prestigious private schools. The significance of Franklin House in preserving local heritage led to the establishment of the National Trust in Tasmania. Today, visitors can explore the well-preserved interiors and learn about the lives of its former inhabitants.
