Built in 1846 for Scottish settlers Patrick and Catherine Leslie, Newstead House stands as Brisbane’s oldest colonial residence, situated on the banks of the Brisbane River. This historic home, now a house museum, is meticulously recreated in late Victorian style. Inside, visitors can explore a vast collection of period furnishings and unique artefacts, such as a signal cannon, Sir Thomas Brisbane’s pipe, and a model of the HMS Beagle, the ship sailed by former resident Royal Navy captain John Wickham. The house also offers special events and educational programs, including opportunities to experience Victorian-style cooking, washing, and games.
