Hellfire Pass

Hellfire Pass, a segment of the Burma-Thailand railway, slices through the rugged Tenasserim Hills in western Thailand. During World War II, Allied prisoners of war undertook the grueling task of cutting through the dense rock, facing extreme isolation and inadequate equipment, leading to high casualty rates. Today, visitors can walk along the pass, gaining a somber understanding of the harsh conditions and immense human cost endured by the POWs. The site serves as a poignant reminder of the railway’s tragic history.
