Utou-jinja, Aomori City’s guardian Shinto shrine, dates back approximately 1,200 years, making it older than the city itself. Nestled in a serene setting, the shrine’s grounds feature traditional gardens, a red torii gate, and a tranquil pond. Visitors can explore historical artifacts and stones inscribed with Japanese poetry. The shrine is also associated with 20th-century woodblock artist Shiko Munakata, and some of his works are on display. Today, guests can enjoy a peaceful stroll through the lush, well-maintained grounds, immersing themselves in the rich cultural and historical significance of this ancient site.
