Asakusa Engei Hall

Nestled in Tokyo’s Asakusa neighborhood, known for its traditional charm and historic temples, the Asakusa Engei Hall stands as a cultural gem. One of only four theaters in Tokyo dedicated to rakugo comedy, this venue has been hosting performances since the 1960s. Rakugo, a storytelling art form that gained popularity during the Edo period (17th–19th centuries), involves a lone performer sitting on a small cushion and captivating the audience with humorous tales. Today, visitors can experience this unique form of entertainment, immersing themselves in the rich, narrative traditions of Japan.
