Nestled within Komodo National Park, Kalong Island, also known as Koaba Island, is a small islet covered in dense mangrove forests. The island’s name, which translates to Bat Island, comes from its most notable feature: a large colony of flying foxes. As the sun sets, these bats take to the sky, creating a dramatic spectacle as they head towards nearby Flores in search of food. Visitors can witness this natural phenomenon, observing the bats’ nightly exodus against the backdrop of the setting sun.
