Merville Battery, or Batterie de Merville, was a coastal fortification constructed by the Nazis in Merville-Franceville as part of the Atlantic Wall during World War II. This site, more robustly fortified than many others, became a critical target for Allied forces and was one of the first to be attacked on D-Day. Today, visitors can explore an on-site museum that features a reconstituted gun chamber and an educational trail. These exhibits provide insight into the battery’s operation and its significance in the broader context of the war.
