Summer Palace (Yiheyuan)

In 1750, Emperor Qianlong commissioned the Summer Palace, or Yiheyuan, as a lakeside retreat to escape Beijing’s summer heat. Nestled along the shores of Kunming Lake, this UNESCO World Heritage site features an array of pavilions, walkways, gardens, and bridges. During the last years of her life, Empress Dowager Cixi used the palace as her seat of government. Today, visitors can explore the intricate architecture and serene landscapes, offering a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of China’s imperial past.
