Cooks’ Cottage

Built in 1755, Cooks’ Cottage originally stood in Yorkshire, England, as the home of Captain James Cook’s parents. In the 1930s, industrialist Sir Russell Grimwade had the brick cottage dismantled and shipped to Melbourne, where it was reassembled. Today, visitors can explore this historic structure, which now stands as one of Australia’s oldest buildings. The cottage offers a glimpse into the past, with its traditional brickwork and period furnishings, providing a tangible connection to the early life of one of history’s most renowned explorers.
